Longer, fuller lives for patients suffering from neuromuscular disorders: we have designed NeuroFlex with the hope that medical professionals can make better treatment plans for their patients with the information that we can provide.


Easy to use and maximizes user comfort, conforming to any physical shape easily. NeuroFlex is something people can use while they are sleeping, while they are cooking, while they are driving. It’s non-invansiveness makes testing not just seamless, but simple.

Low-cost, accessible electromyography. NeuroFlex is significantly cheaper than any other EMG device on the market, and can become an important piece of medical technology for less affluent areas or individuals that repeatedly need to take EMGs.

Who are we?

We are a group of high schoolers at Thomas Jefferson High for Science and Technology. We met by our common interest in biomedical technology and complementary skills and experience.


We are all highly motivated in working on NeuroFlex due to personal connections to the effects of ALS. Because of this, we strongly believe in the goals of this company to help increase accessibility to medical detection of neuromuscular disorders.

Our innovation: prototype

A Computer-Aided Design model of our product. It uses a dry titanium electrode with a soft, flexible case and circuit board to bring comfort to the wearer, while gaining efficacy as a medical device.

Electrical Diagram of each of the patches; once the product requirements are finalized, we will further develop the electronics to be reliable, efficient, and inexpensive.

Our innovation:

Machine learning

Our machine learning algorithm has been trained on ALS data, getting a recall of over 98% (so the chance of false-negatives is low).


We are working to expand and train our model on other Neuromuscular disorders, such as Lambert-Eaton disorder.

innovation: mobile app

Our mobile app connects to the patches via a secure Bluetooth protocol, allowing data to be analyzed by our machine learning model. The app provides a hub for information, allowing customers to see their results, while providing medical professionals a reliable, long-term source of EMG data for better diagnosis and treatment.

how we’ll do this

We have already started by creating an early version of our app, the initial machine learning model, some physical prototyping, and planning out what resources will be needed to do full prototypes of the patches.


We are currently working hard to improve all of the aspects of this product; in both software and hardware; to improve usability, effectiveness, and consumer comfort.


In the future, we will continue to train our machine learning model on real-world data to get even higher accuracy, as well as continue to develop better and cheaper EMG technology.
